Virgin Hyperloop One, for which British billionaire Richard Branson stands, wants to build a super-fast transport system in India. The journey between Pune and the planned Mumbai airport will shorten to twenty-five minutes and saves passengers up to three hours, Bloomberg agency said.

Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, signed a preliminary agreement in Mumbai to build a high-speed passenger transport system and cargo in capsules via vacuum tunnels. With the concept of hyperloop, for the first time in 2013, American visionary Elon Musk appeared.

The demonstration runway should be built within two to three years of signing the contract and, in the second phase, the entire Puna-Mumbai route with the expected date of five to seven years.

Branson’s project, according to Virgin Hyperloop One, could save roughly $ 55 billion ($ 1.1 trillion) in India for thirty years of operation.

“I think the Virgin Hyperloop One project could have the same effects in India in the 21st century as twentieth-century trains,” Branson said. “The Puna-Mumbai route is the ideal first corridor for the pan-European hyperlink network,” added the billionaire.
